For schools, students and families | Effective 7 October 2026
Design Lab 101 provides an introductory interior design course. This policy explains our handling of personal information for course enrolment, delivery and support, including school licences and individual enrolments. We comply with privacy laws and contractual privacy obligations that apply to our activities.
Website: www.DesignLab101.com.au
Privacy and general enquiries: [email protected]
School enquiries: [email protected]
Technical support: [email protected]
We collect information reasonably needed to provide and administer the course. Depending on the enrolment and services used, this may include names, contact details, school and class details, account identifiers, enrolment and licence records, course progress, quiz results, submitted work, certificate records, support correspondence and billing records.
Our website and course platform may also collect technical information required to operate and secure the service, such as device, browser, IP address, cookies or analytics information.
We collect information directly through registrations, student uploads and enquiries, and from schools that arrange enrolments or manage their licences. Service providers may collect account and technical information while operating the service.
We use information to create and administer accounts, deliver lessons, provide support, report progress to authorised school staff, issue certificates, manage licences and payments, maintain security and meet applicable legal obligations. If required enrolment information is not provided, we may be unable to establish an account or provide the relevant service. General enquiries may be made anonymously where practicable.
Teachers have access to course areas needed to deliver Design Lab 101. Access to student records is restricted to authorised teachers and administrators responsible for those students within the licensed school. This may include enrolment details, progress, quiz results and uploaded work needed for teaching and school reporting.
Students are limited to their own accounts and do not receive access to another student's private records or uploads. Schools must keep their authorised staff access current.
We provide privacy information to schools, students and families in clear language. Schools arranging enrolments must have the authority required to provide student information and must communicate the relevant enrolment privacy information to students and families.
Where consent is required, we consider the student's capacity to understand the proposed handling of their information and obtain parent or guardian consent when appropriate. A school enrolment does not authorise unrelated marketing, publicity or future unrelated uses. Parents and guardians may contact us about a student's information; we verify their authority and consider the student's capacity, privacy interests and applicable law before providing access.
Uploads may include floor plans, mood boards, photographs, written submissions and other course work. We use these for course delivery, support and authorised school reporting.
Students should use fictional client details where possible and remove real names, addresses, photographs of people and other identifying information that is unnecessary for the task. Do not upload sensitive personal information or information about other people without appropriate authority.
If sensitive information is necessary for an agreed support arrangement, we will explain why it is needed and obtain consent where required. Identifiable student work, photographs and testimonials will not be published for promotional purposes without separate appropriate permission.
BeeSavvy provides the course platform. We may also use authorised contractors and providers of hosting, communications, technical support, payment services and other services needed to operate Design Lab 101.
Access is limited to information needed for authorised tasks. We require appropriate confidentiality, security and handling arrangements. Providers' own privacy policies may also explain their handling of information; they do not replace this policy or our responsibilities.
Personal information may be stored, accessed or processed outside Australia if an authorised provider or subcontractor operates overseas. Where overseas handling occurs, we take reasonable steps appropriate to our role to assess applicable privacy obligations and maintain appropriate safeguards. This policy does not seek a blanket waiver of protections for overseas disclosures.
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Measures include restricting access according to role, controlling contractor access and managing accounts and incidents.
No online service can guarantee absolute security. Suspected privacy incidents can be reported to our privacy contact. We investigate, take containment and remedial steps, and notify schools, affected individuals and regulators where required by applicable law or contract.
We retain information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy and applicable legal or contractual requirements.
When enrolment or a school licence ends, we deal with the information in accordance with applicable requirements and school arrangements. When information is no longer needed and retention is not required, we take reasonable steps to securely delete it or de-identify it. Backups may take additional time to expire. Students and schools should download work they wish to keep before account access ends.
Students, families and schools may contact our privacy contact to request access to personal information, correction of inaccurate information, or deletion where appropriate. We verify identity and authority using only what is reasonably necessary.
We aim to respond within 30 days and will explain any delay. Access and correction are subject to applicable law and protections for other people's information. If we refuse a request, we explain the reason and available complaint options, unless the law prevents us from doing so. Deletion is not an unrestricted right; some records may need to be retained. School-held records may also need to be requested directly from the school.
Please contact our privacy contact with the concern and the outcome sought. We acknowledge complaints promptly, investigate fairly and aim to respond within 30 days.
If unresolved, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au where the matter falls within its jurisdiction, or the relevant state privacy authority where applicable. Complaints about a school's own handling of information should also be directed to that school.
Course administration messages are separate from optional marketing.
Design Lab 101 may provide Ask Jill, an AI-assisted course support feature intended to help students understand and navigate approved Design Lab 101 course content. Ask Jill is an AI assistant and does not replace a teacher or other human support.
Messages submitted to Ask Jill, and relevant account or course context where applicable, may be processed by authorised technology providers to generate and deliver course-related responses and to operate, secure and support the service. Students should not submit sensitive personal information, passwords, financial information or unnecessary information about themselves or other people through Ask Jill.
AI-generated responses may occasionally be incomplete or inaccurate. Students should check important information against their course materials and seek assistance from their teacher or Design Lab 101 where appropriate. Where Ask Jill is provided through a school, its use may also be subject to the school's requirements and settings.
We publish the current Privacy Policy free of charge on our website and provide a copy on request. Material changes will be communicated to affected schools and users as appropriate. Publication alone does not provide consent for a materially different new use of personal information where consent or other authorisation is required.
